Every child looks forward to the freedom of summer break, but for parents, the season also offers a valuable window of opportunity. If the past school year was marked by constant struggles with reading, homework frustration, or difficulty staying focused, these challenges often point to a deeper issue that standard summer reading lists cannot resolve.
Eyecare Associates, PC is pleased to announce our upcoming Vision Therapy Summer Camp. This interactive program is designed for children and students who need to strengthen their visual systems, improve tracking comfort, and build the foundational skills necessary for a successful upcoming academic year. Through structured activities and expert guidance, our camp transforms specialized clinical care into an engaging summer experience.
Our program is led by a dedicated team of residency-trained eye doctors and experienced vision therapists who specialize in pediatric optometry in Connecticut. Under the clinical direction of Dr. Randy Schulman and our advanced pediatric team, we work closely with families to ensure each child receives personalized support tailored to their unique developmental milestones.
What the Summer Camp Will Cover
This intensive, multi-week program utilizes targeted developmental vision exercises to train the eyes and brain to work more efficiently together. Key focus areas include:
- Tracking and Visual Acuity: Exercises designed to help children move their eyes smoothly across lines of text without skipping words or losing their place.
- Binocular Coordination: Activities that strengthen eye-teaming skills to prevent double vision, print fatigue, and strain during reading.
- Focusing Stamina: Techniques to help the eyes rapidly and comfortably shift focus between distant targets and close-up schoolwork.
- Visual Processing Speed: Games and challenges that help the brain organize, interpret, and respond to visual data more quickly.
- Perceptual Motor Skills: Integrating body awareness, balance, and hand-eye coordination to support both athletic performance and classroom focus.
Why This Program Matters
When a child struggles to read or maintain concentration, it is often assumed to be an attention or behavioral issue. In reality, many children pass standard school vision screenings but still work twice as hard as their peers because their eyes do not team properly. This hidden physical strain drains their energy and impacts their confidence.
The summer months provide the ideal environment for children’s vision therapy because students are free from the daily pressure of homework and rigid school schedules. With well-rested minds, children can engage fully in vision therapy summer camp sessions, building lasting neural pathways that will allow them to start the new school year with absolute confidence.
