Lecture by Dr. Randy Schulman: Syntonic Expertise Through CSO Vision Education

At EyeCare Associates, advancing patient care goes beyond the exam room. Dr. Randy Schulman, OD, FOVDR, FCSO, continues to play an active role in professional education, sharing her clinical expertise with fellow optometrists and vision therapists through CSO Vision.

Earlier this month, Dr. Schulman served as an instructor for Syntonic Phototherapy 101, a two-day educational course held in Southport, Connecticut. The course brought together eye care professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of optometric syntonic phototherapy and its role in comprehensive vision care.

Supporting the Growth of Syntonic Phototherapy

Syntonic phototherapy is an optometric treatment approach focused on using specific wavelengths of light to support visual function and neurological balance. Through structured education and guided clinical application, Dr. Schulman helps clinicians better understand when and how syntonics can be incorporated into patient care.

The Southport course emphasized both foundational knowledge and real-world application, allowing participants to gain practical insight they could immediately use in their practices.

Topics covered included:

  • The history and core principles of Optometric Syntonic Phototherapy

  • Pupil assessment and clinical interpretation

  • Convergence near point evaluation

  • Functional visual field assessment

  • Case syndromes and treatment considerations

  • Hands-on practicum and clinical discussion

Looking Ahead: March 2026 Course in California

Building on the success of the Southport course, Dr. Schulman will again partner with CSO Vision for the next Syntonic Phototherapy 101 session, scheduled for March 13–14, 2026, in Visalia, California.

The upcoming course will be co-instructed by Cliff Fukushima, OD, FCSO, and will continue CSO Vision’s mission of delivering practical, clinician-focused education.

By contributing to continuing education, she supports the broader goal of improving patient outcomes through thoughtful, well-informed clinical care.
